Declan Baseley

I’m enormously proud to announce that I’ve been selected by the Wiltshire Green Party to represent residents of Sheldon Ward at the upcoming Wiltshire Council elections on Thursday May 1st 2025.

I was born and raised in Chippenham, and since 2021 I’ve been a hard-working member of Chippenham Town Council. In 2023 I was very proud to serve as Chippenham’s youngest ever Mayor, and in May I’m standing for election to Wiltshire Council to become its first Green Party Councillor.

As a town councillor, I’ve been instrumental in getting Chippenham to declare an Ecological Emergency to protect and restore threatened habitats, increase biodiversity and restore the health of our rivers. I’ve supported warm rooms for those experiencing fuel poverty and I’ve raised thousands of pounds to help those affected by homelessness. I served as a member of the Chippenham Neighbourhood Planning Group and was very pleased to see our plan adopted at the recent referendum last May.

There are a plethora of problems facing our community and, as your representative, I will work for you on local issues. Some of my top priorities as a Wiltshire Councillor will be:

  1. Creating better public transport links between towns and villages to cut down on rural unemployment by giving people better access to more job opportunities and cutting down our reliance on cars.
  2. I want to encourage projects that will protect and restore nature, and ensure we have more access to it through an expanded network of rural footpaths and cycle lanes.
  3. I’m appalled to know so many members of our community now rely on foodbanks just to make ends meet. On Wiltshire Council I will work tirelessly to help eradicate poverty and homelessness from our community.

Only the Green Party can be trusted to take the climate and ecologically emergency seriously and offer real solutions that will make an impactful difference in the lives of ordinary people. Green councillors do not have a whip, so, unlike other parties, they will never be told what to do and prevented from focusing on local issues.

It has been the privilege of my life to serve my community. I want to bring my passion and dedication to Wiltshire Council, where I will be a voice fighting for progressive change and fairer, more sustainable society for us all. It is now more important than ever to have a Green Voice in the room.

The Green Party have made huge gains over the past few years, we now have four MPs in Parliament and almost a thousand county councillors representing people across the length and breadth of Britain. It’s time to get Green representation on Wiltshire Council!

With your support we can make it happen and create a fairer, greener Wiltshire.

Kind regards,
Cllr Declan Baseley
